A straightforward diagnostic tool to identify attribute non-attendance in discrete choice experiments

چکیده

To distinguish between respondents that have attended to/ignored an attribute in discrete choice experiments (DCE), Hess and Hensher (HH) apply the coefficient of variation conditional distribution, setting a threshold 2 as conservative rule thumb. This paper develops analytical framework (piecewise regression analysis — PWRA) to refine HH approach, offering flexible method identify non-attendance (ANA) highly context-dependent DCE. It is empirically tested on dataset used value agricultural public goods. The results suggest identification goodness fit different random parameter logit models accommodate ANA are better when developed this research applied. When comparing welfare estimates from PWRA significant differences observed. Consequently, flexibility notably contributes revealing context-specific patterns can help provide more accurate measures therefore policy recommendations.

Investigating attribute non-attendance and its consequences in choice experiments with latent class models.

A growing literature, mainly from transport and environment economics, has started to explore whether respondents violate some of the axioms about individuals' preferences in Discrete Choice Experiments (DCEs) and use simple strategies to make their choices. One of these strategies, termed attribute non-attendance (ANA), consists in ignoring one or more attributes. Using data from a DCE adminis...

Lost in the crowd? Using eye-tracking to investigate the effect of complexity on attribute non-attendance in discrete choice experiments

BACKGROUND The provision of additional information is often assumed to improve consumption decisions, allowing consumers to more accurately weigh the costs and benefits of alternatives. However, increasing the complexity of decision problems may prompt changes in information processing. This is particularly relevant for experimental methods such as discrete choice experiments (DCEs) where the r...

Detecting, Non-Transitive, Inconsistent Responses in Discrete Choice Experiments

Surveys focusing on choice behaviour, and in particular, Discrete Choice Experiments (DCEs) are widely used in studies across many disciplines, including transportation, marketing research, health economics, labour economics and environmental studies. Investigation of the 'rationality' of responses in choice experiments has received a fair bit of attention from researchers. Most of this researc...

Ranking in discrete choice experiments

A common problem in ethology is ranking of animal preferences for several discrete stimuli or options. We considered experiments where animals chose one of all possible simultaneously presented options. The animals might be observed at repeated occasions. In the ethological literature the analysis is often focused on testing the global hypotheses of no difference in preferences by non-parametri...
